Ashlesha nakshatra is the last nakshatra present in the Cancer zodiac sign. It is the second Ganda Mool placement after Ashwini nakshatra. Ganda Mool comes from the word Gandanta or the end of a cycle. As Ashlesha is placed at the end of the water sign of Cancer and the beginning of the fire sign of Leo, it shows a critical and intense karmic point in the person's chart.
Being part of the natural feminine sign of Cancer, both male and female natives of this nakshatra have a strong feminine side. To understand any nakshatra it is crucial to understand the stories of deity associated with it which in the case of Ashlesha is "Nagas". It goes without saying that people are obsessed with tales of half-serpent half-human beings. In many parts of the world human races and places are named as nagas. Both Hindu & Buddhist texts have reference of the Naga kingdom. Worshipping serpent deities is found in many cultures.

It is located at the base of all realms, i.e, Patala (depicted at the feet of kalapurusha). It is ruled over by Vasuki, the king of the Nāgas. Nagaloka is filled with resplendent palaces, beautifully ornamented with precious gems. It is believed to be like an underworld paradise and is more beautiful than Swarga or heavenly realms. Both Yakshas & Nagas reside in Patala and are believed to be the guardians of treasure. Ashlesha nakshatra belongs to rakshasa gana as the nagas were believed to be demonic race. But contrary to their evil portrayal in pop fiction. It has been mentioned in the ancient texts that creator deity Brahma asked them to bite those destined to die prematurely.
So there is another notion that all “Nagas” are snakes but all snakes are not “Nagas”. They are also associated with waters—rivers, lakes, seas, and wells. So one can understand why Ashlesha nakshatra is placed in the watery sign of Cancer.
The female nagas (naginis or nagis) are serpent princesses of striking beauty. They were believed to have hypnotic eyes and charm. As Rahu is also a serpent, the influence of this graha can be seen in these natives with intoxicatingly beautiful eyes.
