Astrology Analysis: Lord Krishna & Themes Of Moon In His Life

On the auspicious occasion of Janma Ashtami, I will be writing on the correlating astrology themes of Lord Krishna, the Moon and Rohini nakshatra. Lord Krishna was one of the 10 avatars of lord Vishnu. In his previous incarnation of being lord Rama, he had the Moon in Punarvasu. In his avatar of Krishna, he had Rohini moon and Rohini ascendant.

I gave the reference of lord Rama (his previous incarnation) to compare his qualities with the incarnation as lord Krishna to emphasize the difference. Rama was called "Purushottam" or the best man. He was very obedient, idealistic and followed every rule diligently.

However in his incarnation as lord Krishna, he broke many rules of society. He was moon dominant man with exalted moon in Taurus ascendant. The themes of moon were very prominent in his life.

Firstly Krishna was born in the Yaduvanshi branch of Lunar dynasty a.k.a Chandravanshi king (lineage in moon). His birth was dramatic, he was the target of his own evil maternal uncle who was hell bent to take his life.

It is believed by some astrologers that pada-1 of Rohini nakshatra causes problem to maternal uncle. Krishna was born in Rohini nakshatra pada-1.

Pada-1 of any nakshatra deals with the matters of Dharma. So one will see that all throughout his life, Krishna has emphasized the importance of one's Dharma. Even in his discourse of Bhagwad Gita, he has focused on one's personal Dharma a lot.

Although Krishna was born in a royal family, but he spent his childhood in Vrindavan, a beautiful village. Rohini nakshatra located in the Taurus sign and symbolically has strong themes associated with country side, and agriculture.

The Shakti associated with this lunar mansion is "Rohana shakti" or the power to make things grow. There is a strong maternal side to this nakshatra as moon is the karaka of fourth house.

The other themes of Taurus that one can see in Lord Krishna's life is association with food as he was fond of milk products (milk ruled by moon). His foster father was Nanda, the cowherd chief. Cows are also associated with Taurus. One of the symbols of Rohini is a bullock cart.

Moon is known as Chandra in Vedic texts. He was known for his romantic nature and had multiple wives. Similarly Rohini nakshatra is ruled by moon and Krishna had multiple romantic encounters & nearly 16,000 wives.

Krishna was pretty mischievous as a kid. From stealing women's clothes to breaking into people's house for food but it was part of his Dharma. Every person has a certain individual Dharma in the world that is their inherent nature which is their Svadharma.

Lord Krishna possessed 16 kalas or qualities of Lord Vishnu. This is the reason why it is believed that this avatar was most similar to their real nature of Vishnu. Astrologically Rohini nakshatra is similar to Shravana nakshatra (both are moon ruled).
